Katie Jackson: Florida Fishing Guide and 2013 All-American participant

Katie Jackson: Florida Fishing Guide and 2013 All-American participant

This week Co-anglers.com travels to the Sunshine State of Florida. Where we catch up with Katie Jackson, one of only two female anglers to ever make it to the FLW All-American Tournament.

We asked Katie to give us a few details about her successes in the industry and this what she had to say.

Co-Anglers.com: What is your home town?

Katie Jackson: I grew up in a small town around Gainesville, Florida

CA: Tell us a little about yourself.

KJ: I grew up fishing a lot in the flats of the Gulf of Mexico but fell in love with bass fishing after doing some events with friends. I love traveling to new bodies of water and figuring them out and I also guide for Bienville Plantation in White Springs, Florida.

CA: What Tournament trail do you fish?

KJ: Currently, I am in the middle of seasons but typically I fish Fishers of Men National Tournament trail, some FLW events, local trails, and charity events.

CA: How long have you been a co-angler?

KJ: I started fishing the BFL’s as co about 8-9 years ago.

CA: What brand of rod and reel did you use to catch your biggest fish? How did you catch your biggest fish? What part of the lake you catch your biggest fish?

KJ: My personal best bass came this year on a Halo rod and Lewis reel. I caught it fishing a square bill crank bait targeting a submerged hump that had a drop of 3 feet to 15 feet. Cove near the mouth of a channel off the main pool.

We also asked Katie what she has learned from the sport, what inspires her to fish and what does she expect the of the sport for the future.

CA: Did you learn anything new from your pro?

KJ: There is always something to be learned when fishing, especially with a pro. The main thing I’ve learned is patience when fishing on the bottom, letting the bait soak.

CA: What or who inspires you to fish?

KJ: I am inspired as a co-angler to have the opportunity to learn from great fisherman and the fun, competitive atmosphere of tournament bass fishing is addictive LOL.

CA: What do you expect from tournament fishing?

KJ: I expect the unexpected LOL never are there any 2 days that are the same. If practice is great, tournament can be tough and visa versa. And you never know what the weather will bring but I always look forward to the adventure and friendship of fellow fisherman.

CA: Do you think that in 2018 the FLW will take out co-anglers from the Costa and/or Tour tournaments?

KJ: I don’t believe that FLW would take co-anglers out of the costa and the tour next year. There are good and bad things about having someone in the back of the boat and at the moment there is a good market for co-anglers on the industry side of things and personally, I believe it’s important to have the checks and balances for good sportsmanship. After all, there is lots of money to be won.

In an upcoming article, we ask Katie about her experiences in the All-American tournament. Stay tuned…
