Nicolas Kayler – Florida Stick and Multiple Co-Angler of the Year wins
This week, Co-Anglers.com’s tournament feature takes you to Apopka, FL. Here you will meet 10 year co-angler, Nicolas Kayler. Nicolas has quite an extensive resume that includes several first place finishes in various tournament trails and several co-angler of the year awards. We asked him to share some of his personal experiences and tips with us. Here is what he had to say.

Nicolas Kayler
Co-Anglers.com: What is your favorite lure?
Nicolas Kayler: Can’t say I really have a favorite lure. Over the past handful of years I’ve never used the same lure throughout the year to catch fish.
CA: What is your favorite rod and reel combination?
NK: I own mostly Johnny Morris ( bass pro brand). Prices are good and they really make a great product. Can’t go wrong with a 7’6″ rod and a 7 to 1 reel.
CA: What tournament trail do you fish?
NK: I fish the Ram Weekend Series, The BFL’S, and the Costa Series. I have fished some of the BASS Opens and the FLW tour events when they are on (Lake) Okeechobee.
CA: What lake do you like best and why?
NK: I enjoy (Lake) Okeechobee. On any given tournament you could set your new PB (Personal Best)!
CA: Best tournament finish? Which lake and year?
NK: I’ve won a handful of tournaments throughout the years. I’ve won angler of the year a couple years.

Nicolas is really modest about his success as a co-angler. We asked him for some more specific details on his tournament finishes and co-angler success.
• 2012 – BFL Co-Angler of the Year
• 2013 – Ram Weekend Series Co-Angler of the Year
• 2014 – BFL Co-Angler of the Year
• 2011 – 1st Place Harris Chain
• 2011 – 1st Place Kissimmee
• 2012 – 1st Place Harris Chain
• 2013 – 1st Place BFL 2 Day – Lake Okeechobee
CA: What or who inspires you to fish?
NK: I’ve been fishing ever since I was a kid like most anglers. I enjoy the sport and the competition. I don’t have a favorite that inspires me, but I enjoy learning what most have to say.
CA: What do you expect from tournament fishing?
NK: That’s a good question. I often ask myself what’s next. I’ve won almost everything one could ask for as a Co-Angler at the Ram Weekend Series and BFL’s. I think I fish a lot of tournaments because it’s almost part of my DNA now.
CA: Who is one person you would like to fish with but haven’t had the opportunity to fish with yet?
NK: Well maybe KVD (Kevin VanDam), but not in a tournament. I’ve fished with Mark Rose, Chris Lane, Gary Yamamoto and it ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.
CA: Do you have a fishing goal? If so, what is it?
NK: To win a Ram Weekend Series 2 Day. Win big fish in a BFL. Win a boat!
