CO-ANGLERS.COM WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT: Uby J. Rosell

This week we travel to Davenport, Florida to meet co-angler Uby J. Rusell. Originally from Orlando, Florida, Uby moved to the Davenport, Florida, area over 23 years ago.

“I fell in love with the outdoors when I was about 5 years old, and have been hunting and fishing ever since.”

Co-Anglers.com: What is your favorite lure?

Uby J. Rosell: My favorite baits to use are top water baits. The quality of fish is usually better and fishing as a Co-Angler, you can improve your odds quite a bit. When the Boater is flippin and pitchin, worming, or crancking, you can fish a top water bait to cover more water. Prop baits, popping frogs, and swimming frogs are a great arsenal to have ready.

CA: What tournament trial do you fish? How long have you been a co-angler?

UR: I enjoy both Saltwater and Freshwater fishing, and I have been fishing tournaments off and on for over 10 years. I formerly fished the FLW Bass Fishing League trail, but now fish the ABA Ram Open Series. I’ve been fortunate to fish the Ray Scott National Championship the last three years, and hope to qualify again this year.

CA: What lake do you like best?

UR: The Big O (Lake Okeechobee – for those not familiar with Florida Lakes)

CA: What is your best tournament finish?

UR: Living in Florida, I fish both the ABA Ram Open Florida Central and Florida South divisions. I enjoy fishing the Kissimmee Chain and Lake Okeechobee, and have had my best finishes of 4th place twice this year. I also have won several local team tournaments with fellow Co-Angler David Simpson Jr. and Boater Neil Davis.

CA: What or who inspires you to fish?

UR: The love of the outdoors.

CA: What do you expect from tournament fishing?

UR: Learn, Compete, and Win

CA: Who is one person you would like to fish with but haven’t had the opportunity to fish with yet?

UR: My future grandchild

CA: Do you have a fishing goal? If so, what is it?

UR: In the near future, I will be looking to purchase a flats boat. It will give me the versatility of fishing bass tournaments as a boater, as well as flats fishing. I will also be working on becoming a fishing guide, as I enjoy introducing new people to our sport. Early this year I decided to start building my own custom bass rods. I’ve been using the MHX blanks, and really enjoy it. Recently I built my first in-shore saltwater spinning rod, as well as an offshore trolling rod for a client.

When we asked him if he had anything else to add he said this, “Being a tournament angler is not easy, as most of us have regular jobs and our time and resources are stretched pretty thin. As a Co-Angler, I’m thankful to have TRIK FISH Lines and Leaders and COSTA DEL MAR sunglasses as product sponsor.”

Co-Anglers.com would like to thank Buy J. Rosell for taking the time to open up about his personal and fishing experiences. Want to be featured in a spotlight? Contact us.
